About

Marlen Jimenez (artist)

My artwork combines mixed media elements to express the mental, emotional, and physical transformation I am experiencing on my life journey.  Through my creations, I want my voice to be seen and heard-and to let other women know that they are not alone.  I see you and I hear you.  My art is meant to connect us, conveying a message of unity, love and support.

Working with mixed gives me the freedom to fully explore my ideas.  It’s essential for me to build the right environment, envision mental images, and carefully choose the materials and tools that will breathe life into each piece. Incorporating natural elements and various artifacts allows me the flexibility to elevate and deepen my work.  Color-especially the balance of contrast and harmony-plays a crucial role in my creative process. As a Caribbean woman, I am deeply drawn to the many shades of blue.  Hues like aqua, turquoise, and deep ocean blue are woven into almost all of my pieces.  For me, these colors embody the water in my spirit-a constant source of focus, calm, and renewal.

I find inspiration in the work of other artists and love visiting museums and galleries to spark new ideas and stay motivated on my artistic journey.  I enjoy exploring different art techniques, though I most often work with acrylic, collage, palette knife methods, and underpainting.  I am especially inspired by Frida Kahlo-her resilience and ability to find comfort and strength through art deeply resonate with me, and her life story continues to motivate my creative process.
